Temples

2. Vekateshawara Swami temple: Located in Sannur village, it is probably the oldest temple in Thorrur mandal. The temple is constructed with carved stone, giving it an ancient appearance.
3. Murali krishna temple: Near bus stand, newly constructed.

Besides the temples, there is mosque and a church too.

Transportation

The only means of transportation to thourrur is by road. There is no railway statation or airport. APSRTC buses connect Thorrur to important surrounding cities/towns like Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam and Mahabubabad etc. In addition, buses connect surrounding villages to Thorrur as well. For reaching Thorrur by railways nearest railway stations are, Warangal, Mahabubabad or Khammam depending on the travel route taken.

Nearest airport is Hyderabad International Airport. From Hyderabad buses run to Thorrur directly from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station also called Imlibun bus station. Another convenient way of reaching Thorrur from Hyderabad is to take a bus or train to Warangal/Hanamkonda and taking a bus from there to Thorrur.

Thorrur has a APSRTC bus depot and is considered the most profitable bus depot in Warangal dist.

Thorrur, Warangal

Thorrur is a Mandal and a town in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh state, India. It is located on Jayaprakash Narayana road between Warangal and Khammam. It is at a distance of 50 km from Warangal and 70 km from Khammam.

The overall literacy percentage is around 55% of which male is 67% and female is 43%. The main language spoken is Telugu with quite a bit of Telangana accent. Majority of the population are Hindu with few Muslims and Christians. In addition, there are considerable number of tribals called lambada, mostly living in small hamlets (thandas).

Thorrur has warm climate with peak temperatures in summer reaching up to 45°C. Temperature in winter goes as low as 15°C. The air is mostly dry with little humidity. The climate has three seasons with rainy season between June-Nov, winter between Dec-Feb and summer between March–May. The rainfall is mostly through monsoon with south west monsoon contributing to most of the rain fall. In addition, northeast monsoon contributes to some rain fall. Besides the monsoons, rainfall occurs often by low pressure areas created in the Bay of Bengal. Historically, Thorrur floods rarely. As it is far away from the coastline, it is free from high speed cyclonic winds. However, occasional moderate speed winds occur at nights between April and June, as a result of ground ground air overheating. During this period, rare events of hail fall occurs as well. In addition, thunderstorms associated with lightening occurs often.

Thorrur is in Palakurthi assembly constituency and Warangal parliamentary constituency. Though the assembly constituency is not named after Thorrur, it acts as the center for all political activities for Palakurthi constituency. Thorrur being the biggest town in the constituency, main offices of all the political parties are located here. Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Indian National Congress and TRS are the major political parties in Thorrur.

Thorrur mandal has a ZPTC member representing it in Warangal Zilla parishat. In addition, it has a madal president (MPP) elected by MPTCs belonging to different villages. Thorrur town has a gram panchayat with a Surpanch as its head. Villages in Thorrur mandal have grampanchayats with a Surpanch as the head and several ward members.

Thorrur has various state government offices taking care of administration. It has a Mandal office, with a Mandal development officer (MDO) and Mandal revenue officer (MRO). In addition, it has a police station with a circle inspector and few sub inspectors taking care of law and order.
